Noboru Takamura
We promote recovery support in cooperation with municipalities in Fukushima and other universities.
My name is Noboru Takamura, the Director of Research and Support Center for the Future of Fukushima, Nagasaki University. Immediately after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011, I conducted crisis communication in Fukushima and supported municipalities such as Kawauchi Village, Tomioka Town, Okuma Town and Futaba town with the aim of ensuring the region’s recovery from the disaster. Also, I am the Director of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear Disaster Memorial Museum in Futaba town.
For the past fourteen years, our university has been promoting support for Fukushima’s recovery, not only in the field of radiation medical science but also in other areas, such as education. Our center serves as an umbrella coordination body to carry out these support activities effectively. At the same time, we act as a liaison for municipalities in Fukushima with other universities. Although almost 14 years have passed since the accident, it is also true that more than 20,000 residents have yet to return to their hometowns.
In the future, I hope to contribute to the recovery and the creation of a bright future for Fukushima by using all of the center’s functions.
Overview of the Center
The Research and Support Center for the Future of Fukushima provides comprehensive and concrete support and cooperation to the Fukushima Prefecture, which was occurred by the earthquake and nuclear disaster, through three streams: business support, recovery support, and educational support.

International Advanced Training Course
This course is based on the Nagasaki University experience in the Futaba district of Fukushima Prefecture in relation to the involvement of affected people after the accident at Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO)’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant on March 11, 2011.
